legendURN and Sustainability

Since 2007, legendURN has been using e-commerce to get closer to the personal desires of consumers through our extensive range of products and the option for customized solutions. The motivation to continuously improve is inherent in our team. While we were pioneers in 2007 with one of the first online urn shops in Europe, our current goal is to inspire and promote sustainability.

We are a young and excited team aiming for innovation in the funeral industry. With our multicultural background, we have a good understanding of the norms and values of different cultures. We are deeply connected to society and have the opportunity to make a positive contribution.

Our Ambition

We strive to get better every day! From responsible packaging and delivery to the use of 100% solar energy in our building. With our increasingly sustainable product range, we aim to help customers make conscious choices and minimize our CO2 emissions per package to leave the smallest possible ecological footprint.

Logistics and Environment

Together with our delivery services, we aim to deliver the items ordered by our customers as efficiently and sustainably as possible. This includes reusing boxes and packaging materials from our suppliers. Only when sufficient packaging material is not available from our suppliers do we use our own recycled packaging materials. Whenever possible, we avoid the use of filler materials. We have also considered environmentally friendly parcel carriers in our choice of delivery partners.

Our Workplace

Our workplace at Roggemole in Lemmer was built in 2018 according to the latest construction standards and has an A+++ label. Since the beginning, we have been fully powered by solar energy. An important part of this transition was the installation of solar panels on the roof. Additionally, all spaces are equipped with LED lighting and light sensors. When equipment needs replacement, we opt for sustainable alternatives.

Waste Separation

Separating waste is a given for us. We separate our waste into:
•    Organic waste (vegetable, fruit, and garden waste)
•    Paper and cardboard
•    Glass
•    Plastic
•    Batteries
•    PET bottles

Our Computers and Systems

At the end of the day, we ensure that our equipment is turned off. When choosing our hosting and data centres, we have also considered partners who operate as consciously as possible.

Printing

Fortunately, we rarely need to print. Only our labels and a few manuals. Most manuals are digitized and added to our digital correspondence. We also send our packing slips and invoices digitally. Even our administration is 100% digital.

Remote Work

Half of our team works from home. The biggest ecological advantage of remote work is the reduction in commuting. We strive to hold digital meetings as much as possible, we already did this before the pandemic. We also aim to have digital meetings with suppliers whenever feasible.

Packaging

We package our customers' orders in a customized and efficient manner, requiring less cardboard and tape. Some products may require slightly more spacious packaging to prevent breakage.

We reuse boxes and packaging materials from our suppliers. Only when sufficient packaging material is not available from our suppliers, do we use our own recycled packaging materials. Whenever possible, we avoid the use of filler materials.

Delivery

We collaborate with delivery companies to further enhance the sustainability of our delivery process. Customers can pick up their packages at one of the thousands of DHL pickup points. We have also considered environmentally friendly parcel carriers in our choice of delivery partners.

We strive to minimize returns through personal final inspections. As we offer many handmade products, we also send a photo if the product differs from the image in our online store.

Store and Product Range

Within our wide range of products, it is important for customers to make well-informed choices, including regarding the origin, production process, and environmental impact of the items. We aim to support customers in making sustainable choices during their shopping experience. We prefer to collaborate with local artists and suppliers. Additionally, we offer biodegradable urns for ashes.

Biodegradable urns are environmentally responsible urns that gradually decompose over time and become part of the earth or water again. These eco-friendly bio-urns are made from plant-based materials and are suitable for burying ashes in the ground.

The biodegradable urns are environmentally responsible, 100% eco-friendly, and 100% biodegradable. These unique urns are based on the cradle-to-cradle principle.
