A bear that holds the bond
Some losses don't have words. What remains is the connection you shared, the loyalty, the closeness, the relationship that doesn't simply end. The 'Oval Bear' bronze keepsake urn gives that connection a lasting, physical form.
Handcrafted in the Netherlands from bronze
Bronze is chosen for good reason. The material is exceptionally durable, resistant to the elements, and does not deteriorate over time. Each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople, who shape sheet bronze by welding and bending it into its distinctive oval form. That process requires precision and skill, and both are visible in the finished piece. Set within the oval is a small bear, a figure that speaks to the bond you shared: faithful, present, enduring. The urn sits well alongside modern and traditional memorials in stainless steel, glass or natural stone.
Patina: no two urns are alike
The colour of each urn comes from patina, a coloured oxide layer applied by hand to the bronze surface. Because the process responds differently on every piece, each urn is genuinely unique. You choose between green and brown.
- The green patina gives the urn a natural, settled character. To care for it, wipe gently with a soft cloth, water and mild soap. Avoid scrubbing, as the layer is delicate. Over time, the green tone becomes more even in appearance.
- The brown patina is finished with a light wax coat that halts the oxidation process. Indoors, keeping it free of dust is sufficient. Outdoors, the wax layer needs refreshing at least once every two years: apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to a finish.
Practical matters, clearly set out
Choosing a keepsake urn raises practical questions alongside personal ones. Here is what you need to know about delivery, filling and care.
Delivery time
Because each urn is handmade to order in the Netherlands using quality materials, the lead time is four to six weeks. In practice, most orders are ready sooner, but we quote six weeks to avoid disappointment. If you would like to know the current lead time before ordering, you are welcome to ask via our chat or by emailing our customer service team.
Filling the urn
Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is included with your order. The urn is sealed using double-sided adhesive tape with a high bond strength. The filling process itself is straightforward: place the supplied ash bag inside the urn, use the protruding section as a funnel, pour the ashes in, then close the bag with the supplied tie wrap and tuck it fully into the opening. If you prefer not to use the ash bag, a funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once filled, ensure the inner sealing rim is completely clean, dry and free of dust or grease using the cloth provided, then press the cap firmly into place in a single movement. The base will sit flush when correctly closed. You can also ask your crematorium or funeral director to fill the urn on your behalf. If the urn ever needs to be reopened, our technicians are able to do that for you.
Care and durability
Bronze itself requires no maintenance and will not degrade. The patina layer is the only element that benefits from occasional attention, and how much depends on the colour you choose and where the urn is placed. Indoors, both finishes are low maintenance. Outdoors, the brown patina needs the wax coat refreshed periodically. Cared for in this way, the urn will remain in good condition for many years, whether kept inside or placed at an outdoor memorial.
A design that fits the person you're remembering
The bear within the oval will mean something different to each person who chooses it. For some, it calls to mind a parent and child. For others, it is precisely the image of quiet faithfulness that matched the relationship you had. There is no single reading, and that is part of what makes it work.
If you would like something more specific to the person you are remembering, it is possible to develop a custom design together. You can send a sketch, a photograph or a reference for a shape, and the team will produce a design for your approval, followed by a quote. Personalisation by way of engraving is also available as an option if you would like a name, date or short phrase added to the urn.
Getting the right finish for the right place
