When the sea feels like the right place to say goodbye

Not everyone finds comfort in stillness. Some farewells belong to open water, to movement, to a horizon that asks nothing of you. If you are looking for a resting place that feels as vast as the loss, this cremation urn for burial at sea was made with exactly that in mind.

Hand-finished from a remarkable natural mineral

This urn is crafted from Tonolith-Anhydrit, a mineral formed by the natural compaction of gypsum deposits. Anhydrite is the dehydrated form of gypsum, with the chemical formula CaSO4. What that means in practice is that it dissolves cleanly and completely in salt water, leaving nothing harmful behind. The ocean-blue colour is applied by hand using an airbrush technique with water-based, environmentally friendly paint. Because each urn is finished by hand, no two are identical.

What happens on the water

The urn is fitted with a cord, which allows you to lower it onto the surface with care and steadiness. It floats briefly, visible, before slowly descending. Within a few days, the material breaks down fully and naturally. The sea receives it, as the sea always has.

Caring for the urn before the ceremony

Anhydrite is moisture-sensitive by nature. That quality is precisely what makes this funeral urn so well suited to burial at sea, but it also means the urn must be kept dry until the moment of use. Stored in a dry indoor space, it will hold its shape, colour and finish for a long time. Do not store it in a damp room or allow it to be exposed to rain or condensation before the committal. Treated with that straightforward care, it will be exactly as you need it to be on the day.

The meaning behind the waves

The wave pattern on this urn is not simply decorative. Waves arrive and recede, but the water endures. If you want to connect the bond you shared to something boundless and free, something larger than everyday life, the form of this urn carries that meaning. If your loved one had a particular connection to a specific stretch of coastline or a place at sea, personalisation is available: an engraving plate can be added with a name, a date or a short phrase, so that even the smallest details of the farewell reflect the person it honours.

A choice that holds its promise

This urn for ashes is designed for outdoor use, for open water, for a farewell without walls. It does what it is made to do, materially, visually and on the day itself. If you have questions about the ceremony, the process or personalisation options, we are happy to talk them through with you at whatever pace feels right.
