If the sea was where he felt most at home

Some people are drawn to the water their whole lives. The horizon was never a boundary for them, but a direction. This cremation urn is shaped around that pull, and around the kind of farewell that fits someone who lived with that feeling.

Material and biodegradability

The urn is made from Tonolith-Anhydrit, a mineral formed by the natural compaction of gypsum deposits. Anhydrite is the unhydrated form of gypsum, with the chemical formula CaSO4. In practical terms, this means the material behaves predictably and with dignity in water. You lower the urn using the cord provided. It floats briefly on the surface, then settles quietly to the seabed. Within a few days it breaks down completely through natural processes, releasing no harmful substances.

The exterior is hand-airbrushed in a deep red using water-based, environmentally responsible paint. That process takes time and a steady hand, and the result is a finish that holds its colour and its character right up to the moment of committal.

Keeping the urn at home before the burial at sea

If the burial at sea is still being arranged, the urn can be stored safely at home in the meantime. Anhydrite is stable and retains its colour well in dry conditions. Keep it away from bathrooms, utility rooms or anywhere prone to damp. Contact with moisture before the committal can begin to affect the material prematurely, so a cool, dry indoor space is the right place for it.

A colour that says something

Red is not a quiet colour. It is the colour of conviction, of sky on fire when the sun meets the water, of a life lived fully and without hesitation. Choosing this urn for ashes is a decision to mark that life in a way that reflects it honestly. It suits someone who loved the open sea, who found freedom in wind and space, who was never one for understatement.

The symbolism of the sail

A sail gives direction by working with what is already there. It does not force; it responds. When you release this funeral urn onto the water, something of that same dynamic takes over. You have made the choice, set the course, and then the sea continues the journey. For someone who trusted the water, who found stillness in movement and space in open air, this is not a symbol of loss. It is a symbol of return. That is what the name of this urn holds, and what its form carries forward.

Making the moment your own

There is no requirement for ceremony, but small gestures tend to stay with people. Consider bringing a printed card with a few words read aloud, or releasing a single flower onto the water alongside the urn. These additions do not need to be elaborate. What makes a moment returnable in memory is often its simplicity, and the care that went into it. If you would like to add a personal inscription, an engraving plate can be added to the urn, with space for a name, a date or a short phrase.

If you are unsure whether this urn is right for the farewell you have in mind, we are happy to think it through with you at whatever pace suits.
