Stainless steel, grade 316

Not all stainless steel is the same. This urn for ashes is made from grade 316, which offers greater resistance to corrosion than the more common grade 304. That distinction matters whether the urn is placed outdoors in all weathers or kept inside for years to come. The brushed finish is directional, so light catches the surface differently depending on where you stand, giving the metal a quiet, shifting quality rather than a flat shine. The steel itself is an alloy of iron, chromium, nickel and carbon, producing a material that is both strong and low-maintenance.

Handcrafted in the Netherlands

This urn is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople using high-quality materials. Because each piece is made to order, the lead time is four to six weeks. Filling the urn

Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is included. The urn comes with an ash bag, a cable tie, a cleaning cloth and a self-adhesive sealing disc rated to withstand very high tensile force. The filling process is straightforward and can be done at home, or left to the crematorium or funeral director if you prefer. Should the urn ever need to be reopened for any reason, the team's technicians can do that for you.

Step-by-step filling guide

• Place the ash bag into the urn, leaving part of it folded over the opening to act as a funnel
• Pour the ashes into the bag using the folded section as a guide; if not using a bag, a separate funnel is recommended to prevent spillage
• Seal the bag with the cable tie provided, then tuck it fully inside the urn
• Make sure the inner seating edge is completely free of dust, grease and moisture, using the cloth supplied
• Remove the protective film from the sealing disc and press it evenly into the rim in a single movement until it sits flush

The ashes can also be placed loose in the urn without a bag. Because grade 316 steel is non-porous and the seal is fully airtight, this is entirely safe. That said, if you think the ashes may need to be moved or transferred at a later date, using the ash bag now makes that easier.

Laser engraving

Personalisation is available through laser engraving, applied directly to the steel surface. A computer-guided laser works to a high level of precision, capable of rendering a name, a date, a short phrase or even an image. The result can be produced in grey tones or in colour. Image quality affects the final result, so a high-resolution file is worth preparing if you plan to include a photograph or detailed artwork. When ordering, you will be able to select the engraving option and upload your chosen image or text at that stage.

Practical considerations

Durability, guarantee and returns

Grade 316 stainless steel is resistant to rain, frost, salt air and humidity, which makes this urn suitable for indoor and outdoor placement. The airtight seal protects the contents even in exposed positions. This urn carries a ten-year guarantee, and there is a 30-day return period on all memorial products if you change your mind after ordering. Stainless steel will not crack, warp or absorb moisture, so there are none of the vulnerabilities associated with natural stone or ceramic.
