Stainless steel grade 316: why the material matters

Not all stainless steel is the same. This urn is made from grade 316, which offers significantly greater resistance to corrosion than the more common grade 304. That distinction matters if you are placing the urn outdoors, or simply want the assurance that it will hold its condition over many years. The brushed finish is deliberate: the grinding direction causes light to reflect at slightly different angles across the surface, giving the steel a quiet, shifting lustre rather than a flat shine. Stainless steel, known in continental Europe as RVS or inox, is an alloy of iron, chromium, nickel and carbon. It is robust, low-maintenance, and suited to both indoor and outdoor placement.

Handmade in the Netherlands with a lead time of four to six weeks

This urn is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople using quality materials. Because each piece is produced individually, the lead time is four to six weeks from order. In practice it is often sooner, but a six-week estimate is given to avoid disappointment. If you need to know the current lead time before ordering, the team is happy to confirm this directly.

Filling and sealing the urn

Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is included. The process is straightforward, and the urn can be filled with or without the supplied ash bag.

If you are using the ash bag, place it partly inside the urn and use the section left outside as a funnel. Once filled, seal the bag with the supplied cable tie and tuck it fully into the opening. If you prefer to place the ashes directly into the urn without a bag, a funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once the ashes are in place, make sure the inner sealing rim is clean and free of dust, grease or moisture using the cloth provided, then press the lid into the rim in one firm movement. A correctly closed lid sits flush with the surface.

If you would rather have the urn filled by the crematorium or funeral director, that is entirely straightforward to arrange. Should the urn ever need to be reopened for any reason, the team can assist.

Practical considerations: sealing, durability and guarantee

The lid is secured with high-bond double-sided sealing tape rated to withstand considerable tensile force, and the closure is fully airtight. Grade 316 stainless steel is non-porous, so there is no risk of moisture entering the urn and affecting the ashes, which makes it equally suitable for outdoor placement as for indoor. The urn carries a ten-year guarantee, reflecting the confidence placed in the craftspeople who make it. A thirty-day return period applies if you change your mind after ordering.

Making it personal

Laser engraving is available as an option for this urn. A focused laser beam, guided by computer, etches into the steel surface with precision. The result can be a name, a date, a short phrase, a portrait or a design, rendered in grey tones or in colour depending on what you upload. The quality of the engraving reflects the quality of the image file: a high-resolution file produces a sharper result, so it is worth choosing the best version you have. When you place your order, you will be given the option to select laser engraving and upload your image directly.
