How this urn is made

Ceramic has been worked the same way for thousands of years, from ancient Egypt to today. The word itself comes from the Greek keramos. The Memento begins with a plaster mould, which forms the basis for casting. Each urn is then removed from the mould, laid out to dry, and carefully smoothed by hand before its first firing at 900°C. After that, the satin glaze is applied and the urn goes back into the kiln at 1,050°C. That two-stage firing is what produces the surface you see: a soft, considered sheen that sits between matt and gloss, neither one nor the other.
