Three layers of meaning in one object

The heart is the most universal symbol of love and connection, and here it does more than represent that idea. The glass pendant hangs at the centre of the heart shape, making the phrase 'forever in my heart' a tangible, physical truth rather than a figure of speech. You can wear the pendant, or let it hang from the sculpture. It holds a small amount of ashes, but also a lock of hair, a scrap of fabric, or any other keepsake that carries meaning for you. The person you are missing is carried in the most direct way possible.

Materials and construction

The heart-shaped sculpture is made from 2 mm coated steel. The coating is applied by powder coating, an electrostatic process in which negatively charged powder is bonded to the steel and then cured in an oven. The result is a hard, even surface that holds up well to daily life. The wooden base is hand-finished and colour-matched by hand, giving each piece a slightly individual quality.

Practical notes on the wood and use

Wood is a natural material and the base may carry knots, slight surface variation, or hairline cracks caused by changes in temperature. None of this affects the stability or function of the base; it is simply the nature of the material. The sculpture is designed for indoor use, so weathering is not a concern.

A plastic ashes tube is included in the wooden base, which has a recessed opening. Once filled, the opening is sealed with the included self-adhesive disc. The glass pendant has a fill opening that closes with a small screw cap. Both components are straightforward to fill yourself, though using an ashes jewellery filling kit is recommended for a careful, clean result.

The sculpture includes both the ashes tube fitted in the base and the glass ashes pendant. Together they allow you to keep a portion of ashes close in two different ways, one at home and one on your person if you choose.
