A light that stays when you cannot

A candle on a grave says something that words often cannot. This deep red novena candle burns continuously for three days, so there is light on the days when you are not able to be there yourself.

Burn time and composition

Each candle is filled with 100% vegetable oil, sometimes called lamp oil or sanctuary oil. It is a traditional choice for grave candles: the oil burns evenly, with very little smoke, and holds its flame for the full duration. The casing is made from plastic and glassfibre, which gives the candle its solidity and makes it well suited to outdoor use. Day and night, for three days, it continues to burn.

Built for outdoor use

The combination of plastic and glassfibre is specifically designed to withstand the conditions a grave candle faces outside. Rain and temperature changes do not affect the material. That said, position the candle somewhere sheltered from the wind. A draught can disturb or extinguish the flame, and a sheltered spot on the grave will give the best and most consistent result.

Red is not a neutral colour. It speaks of connection, of strength, and of the bond you shared with the person you are remembering. Placing this colour on a grave is a quiet but clear statement, visible to anyone who passes.

Because this candle burns for an extended period outdoors, a few straightforward precautions are worth keeping in mind. Never leave a burning novena candle unattended for long periods. Keep burning candles away from children and animals, clear of clothing and any other flammable material, and always place them somewhere protected from draughts and wind.
