Two kingfishers, one memory
A kingfisher sighting stays with you. There is something about the rarity of it, the flash of colour and the stillness that follows, that makes it unforgettable. Two kingfishers together are rarer still, and that is precisely what makes this keepsake urn so quietly powerful. It holds a reference to the bond you shared, to something that cannot simply be replaced.
Hand-built from German chamotte clay
This cremation urn is shaped entirely by hand using strips of fine and medium-grade chamotte clay sourced from Germany. The process is a slow one. The urn is built up hollow, then left to dry for two weeks before being fired twice in separate kiln cycles: first a bisque firing at 980 degrees, then a glaze firing at 1,220 degrees. After that, the kingfishers are finished with a lacquer that gives them their characteristic bronze colour. Every piece follows this complete process by hand, which means no two urns are identical.
What the bronze finish represents
Bronze is the material of commemorative medals, of statues in city parks, of things made to endure. On this urn for ashes, it gives the kingfishers a presence that goes beyond decoration. You are choosing something with weight and permanence, something that will return something of the person you miss each time you look at it.
At home in your space
This keepsake urn is designed for indoor use. The double firing and glaze process close and harden the surface, but ceramic, like any handmade piece, benefits from thoughtful placement.
Placement and care
Set the urn on a stable, level surface away from areas where it might be knocked. Ceramic is durable, but a hard fall can cause it to break. No cleaning products are needed: a dry cloth is all that is required to keep the surface in good condition. Keep it away from direct moisture or damp conditions indoors.
Making it your own
If you would like to personalise the urn further, a wooden or stone plinth engraved with a name or short phrase can be a considered addition. The kingfisher motif also lends itself to a matching order of service card or remembrance booklet, so that this piece becomes part of something larger you share with others who knew and loved the same person.
Take your time looking at it. If it feels right, you will know.
If you would like help thinking through personalisation options or how best to display the urn, we are happy to talk it through with you at whatever pace suits.
