Shaped by the earth itself
If you are looking for somewhere to place those ashes that feels genuinely real rather than manufactured, alabaster has a quality that is hard to describe and immediately apparent when you hold it. The Horus is a black alabaster cremation urn with a considered, contemporary form, finished by hand and carrying the quiet authority of a material that has existed for millions of years.
Alabaster sourced from European quarries
The alabaster used in the Horus is quarried in Europe, where large blocks of natural stone are cut and shaped using specialist moulds to produce the final urn form. Working alabaster demands a real understanding of the material. It has its own structure and will not be forced. Every block carries its own crystal formation and colour variation, which means no two urns from this collection are identical. The urn for ashes you receive exists, quite literally, only once.
What makes alabaster significant
Alabaster forms over millions of years as sediment consolidates under intense pressure and heat. That fact changes how you see this object. The Horus is not simply a funeral urn placed on a shelf. It is a fragment of the earth itself. The bond you shared with the person you have lost finds a resting place in something that has endured as long as the ground beneath us.
Practical guidance on placement and care
Alabaster is a beautiful natural stone, and because it is porous it does ask something of you in terms of how and where you place it. Two things are important to understand before you decide.
For indoor use only
Because alabaster is porous and not frost-resistant, the Horus is designed exclusively for indoor placement. Moisture that penetrates the stone and then freezes can cause lasting damage. Indoors, on a calm and settled surface, the urn will hold its appearance fully over time. If you are considering where to position it, choose somewhere away from damp or direct condensation.
Always use an ash bag
Given the porosity of the material, we strongly advise placing the ashes inside a plastic ash bag before they go into the urn. This prevents any direct contact between the ashes and the stone, and keeps the urn in its best condition over the long term. The Horus is only suitable for use with an ash bag, and this is worth confirming before placement.
