A place that endures
Choosing where to place someone's ashes is not a small decision. You are looking for somewhere that reflects who they were, and that will still feel right in ten or twenty years. Granite offers that kind of permanence. It is one of the hardest natural stones used in memorials, formed deep underground under immense pressure and heat, which is precisely what gives it its density and resistance to frost, rain and time.
Granite: natural stone with its own character
Every granite cremation urn monument is cut and ground from solid natural stone. Because each piece of granite forms under different conditions, the grain structure and colouring are unique to every slab. Fine or coarse in grain, pale or deep in tone, no two monuments are identical. Several colour options are available, so the monument can be as understated or as distinctly present as you wish.
What the monument carries
A name, a date, a line that says something true about the bond you shared. Text, imagery and symbols can be engraved directly into granite with precision, remaining sharp and legible after years of exposure to the elements. If you are looking for a starting point for words, we have a collection of example inscriptions you are welcome to draw from. You will find them via the link below.
Personalisation and engraving
Once you have placed your order, we will send you a proof for approval before work begins. This gives you the opportunity to review the layout and wording carefully.
Practical considerations, covered from the start
Placing a memorial at a cemetery requires some preparation. Regulations vary between sites, and it is worth establishing the details before ordering your urn for ashes.
Before you order: placement requirements
We strongly recommend speaking with your cemetery manager or local authority before placing an order. Many cemeteries specify permitted dimensions, materials and forms for memorials, and some restrict installation to stonemasons operating within a defined area. The concrete base slab and any piling beneath it are typically installed by the cemetery. If you are placing the monument in a private garden, our plastic urn vault is a practical alternative and straightforward to install yourself. Non-standard dimensions can also be accommodated.
Durability and maintenance
Granite is naturally close to impermeable and absorbs almost no moisture. This makes it highly resistant to weathering and requires very little upkeep. Periodic cleaning with water is generally all that is needed to keep the memorial looking well-maintained.
If you have questions about placement, engraving options or sizing, we are happy to talk through the details with you. Get in touch by phone or use the contact form and we will take it at your pace.
