Patina: colour that is part of the piece

Bronze itself does not deteriorate and needs no maintenance. The patina layer is a different matter. This coloured oxide layer is applied by hand to each urn, which means no two urns look exactly alike. You choose from two finishes.

Green patina

The green finish is the more delicate of the two. Clean it gently with a soft cloth, water and mild soap, and avoid scrubbing. Over the years the colour tends to settle into an even, consistent tone.

Brown patina

The brown finish is sealed with a light wax coating that stops further oxidation and keeps the bronze from turning green. Indoors, keeping the surface free of dust is sufficient. Outdoors, the wax layer needs refreshing at least once every two years, depending on the location and weather conditions. Apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to a finish.

Filling and sealing the urn

Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is supplied with it. The closure uses double-sided sealing tape with a high-strength bond, rated for considerable tension. The process is straightforward. Place the supplied ash bag inside the urn, leaving a portion outside to act as a funnel. Pour the ashes in, seal the bag with the supplied cable tie and tuck it fully into the opening. If you prefer not to use the ash bag, a funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once filled, make sure the inner rim is clean, dry and free from dust or grease using the supplied cloth. Remove the protective film from the lid, position it carefully against the rim, and press it firmly into place in a single movement. A correctly fitted lid sits flush with the surface. If you would prefer the crematorium or funeral director to fill the urn, that is entirely possible. Should the urn ever need to be opened again, the technical team can do this for you.

Practical and secure for indoor and outdoor use

This cremation urn is designed to be placed either inside the home or in an outdoor setting. For outdoor use, the brown patina finish requires periodic maintenance of the wax layer, and the green patina should be cleaned with care. Neither finish needs specialist products. Beeswax and a soft cloth are all that is required to keep the brown patina looking as it should for years.
