Quiet, considered and built to last
Some urns demand attention. This one simply holds it. If you are looking for a keepsake urn that sits with quiet confidence rather than making a statement, the bronze 'Block' is worth your time. Clean lines, honest material, and a form that sits naturally alongside monuments in stainless steel, glass or natural stone.
Handcrafted in the Netherlands from sheet bronze
Each mini urn for ashes is made individually by specialist craftspeople in the Netherlands. Sheet bronze is cut, bent and welded by hand into its final form, a process that demands precision at every stage. Because no two pieces move through production at the same time, lead time is four to six weeks. In practice urns often arrive sooner, but six weeks is the figure given so there are no unexpected delays. If you need a current estimate before ordering, the team can give you one via chat or by email.
Patina: no two urns are identical
What sets this urn apart from cast or moulded bronze pieces is the patina applied by hand to the surface. A patina is a coloured oxide layer, and because it is worked manually, it settles differently on every piece. You choose between green and brown, and that choice shapes how the urn looks now and how it develops over the years.
What the material means in practice
Bronze itself is one of the most durable materials used in memorial objects. It does not corrode, does not degrade and asks very little of you over time. The patina layer is a different matter: it is where the character of the urn lives, and each colour has its own care requirements.
Green patina: low maintenance, naturally evolving
A soft cloth with mild soapy water is all that is needed to remove surface dust or dirt. Avoid scrubbing, as the oxide layer is delicate. Over time the green deepens and becomes more even, which many people find adds to the character of the piece rather than diminishing it. This urn is suitable for both indoor and outdoor placement.
Brown patina: protected with beeswax
The brown patina is sealed with a light wax coating that halts further oxidation and keeps the colour stable. Indoors, keeping it dust-free is sufficient. Outdoors, the wax layer needs refreshing roughly every two years, or more often depending on weather exposure. To do this, apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb fully, then buff it off. It is a straightforward process, and the urn rewards the small effort with a consistent, protected finish.
Filling and sealing the urn
Everything needed to fill and seal the urn is included. A double-sided sealing tape with high tensile strength secures the closure once you are ready. The process is straightforward and follows these steps:
- Empty the supplied ash bag into the urn, leaving a portion outside as a funnel, then pour the ashes through it. If you prefer not to use an ash bag, skip this step and use a separate funnel to avoid spillage.
- Secure the ash bag with the supplied cable tie and tuck it fully into the opening.
- Ensure the internal seating rim is completely free of dust, grease and moisture using the cloth provided.
- Remove the protective film from the lid and position it carefully against the edge of the opening.
- Press the lid into place in a single even movement. When correctly seated, it sits flush with the surrounding surface and the base is level.
- If you would prefer, the crematorium or funeral director can fill the urn on your behalf. Should the urn ever need to be reopened afterwards, the team's technicians can assist with that.
Made to reflect the person you are remembering
The 'Block' is deliberately simple in form. That simplicity is not a constraint but a starting point, because it leaves room for what you bring to it. The bond you shared with the person you are remembering was specific to them, and there are ways to reflect that here.
Custom design
If you have something particular in mind, a bespoke mini urn for ashes can be created from your own design. You can send a sketch, a photograph or a reference image, and the team will develop a design from that. A quote follows for your approval before any work begins. If you would like to explore that option or simply talk through what might be possible, get in touch via chat or the customer service team and they will take it from there.
