A star that keeps its light

Some people leave something behind that doesn't fade. This corten steel keepsake urn takes the shape of a star: small in size, considered in meaning.

Corten steel: a material with genuine character

The 'Star' mini urn for ashes is made from corten steel, an alloy of iron combined with copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. What sets corten steel apart is how it protects itself. When exposed to moisture and oxygen, the surface forms a dense oxide layer that shields the metal beneath, so painting is never needed. The star shape is achieved by precisely bending and welding sheet steel, a process that demands skill and care at every stage. Each line in the finished piece is deliberate.

The symbolism of the star

Stars have long been used as fixed points of navigation, something to orient yourself by when everything else feels uncertain. If the person you have lost was that steady point for you, this cremation urn gives that meaning a physical form. It sits on a windowsill or a shelf and holds its shape quietly, day after day, as a reminder of the bond you shared.

Indoor use, with or without an ash bag

The 'Star' mini urn is designed for indoor use and is suitable both with and without an ash bag, giving you the freedom to store the ashes in whichever way feels right for you.

What you need to know about corten steel

Corten steel is a thoughtful choice, but it helps to understand how the material behaves before you decide. There are no surprises if you know what to expect.

The rust layer: a process, not a flaw

Our corten steel products are treated with a substance that accelerates the initial oxidation. This is the beginning of the patina forming, not the finished result. In the early stages, a surface layer may flake away; this is the mill scale produced during manufacturing and its loss is entirely normal. Over the following months and years, the colour shifts from a bright orange-brown to a deeper, richer tone. Some variation in colour and occasional marking can appear during this process. Both settle with time.

Cleaning and surface damage

The urn can be cleaned with water and mild soapy liquid. If the surface is scratched or damaged, a new oxide layer will form over the affected area. The colour in that spot will cycle through the early stages again, so it may look slightly different from the surrounding surface for a period before it catches up.

Placement advice for indoor use

Because this urn is intended for indoor use, direct exposure to standing water is not a concern in normal conditions. It is worth keeping the base dry and avoiding prolonged contact with porous stone surfaces or stainless steel, as both can react with the runoff from a corten steel surface. A small felt pad or a dry shelf is all that is needed to keep the urn looking its best.

A place for the person you miss

This urn for ashes doesn't ask for much space. It holds its presence on a shelf or windowsill, visible and still, without needing anything added to it. If you are looking for something that keeps a memory tangible and close to hand, this is that object.

If you would like to personalise the urn, engraving options may be available. We are happy to talk through what would work best for you, at whatever pace suits.
