When grief takes shape
The teardrop is not an arbitrary form. The curves that meet at the top echo something universally understood: the moment when words give out and the body takes over. If you are looking for an urn that acknowledges that feeling rather than setting it aside, this is the one.
Corten steel: a material with genuine character
Corten steel is an iron-based metal alloy containing copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel and chromium. That combination produces an oxide layer that protects the material from within. The rust-coloured surface is not deterioration; it is a shield. The steel never needs painting. Each urn is shaped by bending and welding sheet metal with precision, a process that leaves no margin for error. That level of craft shows in every line.
The symbolism of the drop
The teardrop form is not about fragility. It reflects the bond you shared and the honesty of what you are feeling now. That is precisely what makes it work as a memorial object: it asks nothing to be hidden or explained away. If you would like to make the urn more personal, an engraving plate can be added, or the urn can be placed on a plinth that says something about who this person was.
What to know before you place this urn
Corten steel is a low-maintenance material, but there are a few things worth understanding before you decide where and how to display it.
Indoor use
This cremation urn is designed for indoor use and arrives ready to display, with no painting or surface treatment required. It is suitable for use with or without an ash bag.
The oxide layer: what to expect
The rich brown colour of corten steel comes from an active oxidation process. Our urns are treated to accelerate the initial formation of the protective layer, but that layer continues to develop over time. In the early weeks, a thin surface film from the original production process may flake away slightly. This is normal and not a fault. The colour will shift during this period, moving from a bright orange-brown towards a deeper, more settled tone. Any patches or variations in colour will even out as the layer stabilises.
Cleaning
The urn can be cleaned simply with water and mild soap. If the surface is scratched or damaged, a new oxide layer will form naturally. Bear in mind that the colour cycle restarts in that area and may differ from the surrounding surface for a while.
Placement and surface compatibility
Avoid placing this funeral urn directly onto porous stone or stainless steel surfaces. Rust water running from the steel can leave marks on whatever sits beneath it. Take that into account when choosing a plinth, shelf or display surface, and opt for a sealed or non-porous material wherever possible.
If you are unsure about placement or how this urn might sit alongside other memorial objects, we are happy to think it through with you at whatever pace feels right.
