An urn that holds its place in a room

Some urns are put away. Others stay out, naturally, as part of the space around them. This ceramic art urn 'Light' in bronze belongs to the second kind. Not because it conceals what it is, but because of what it gives to a room: a carefully formed object that earns its place wherever it sits.

Hand-modelled by an artist with over 40 years of experience

Every urn in this series is made by hand from high-quality clay by a single ceramicist who has spent more than four decades working with this material. During the firing process, a layer of liquid bronze is applied and bonds to the ceramic surface. That process demands patience and precision. From start to finish, each urn takes around four weeks to complete. No two are identical. The piece made for you will not exist anywhere else.

Seen as an object of art, not a memorial

The contemporary form and distinctive bronze colour mean that most people see this urn as a work of art rather than a piece of funeral ware. That is a deliberate choice by the maker, and for many people it brings real relief. The urn can sit openly in your home, as part of the room itself, and as part of the bond you shared with the person you are remembering.

Practical things worth knowing

Ceramic is a material that rewards careful handling, both in the making and in the living with. Here is what you need to know about using and caring for this cremation urn.

Suitable for indoor and outdoor use

This urn for ashes is suitable for both indoor and outdoor placement. The liquid bronze applied during firing forms a close-bonded outer layer that gives the surface its resilience. That said, ceramic benefits from a degree of protection outdoors. During prolonged frost or in spots where water might pool, a sheltered position will help the surface keep its finish over time. A covered outdoor space or a protected corner of a garden works well.

Personalisation and bespoke options

Because each urn is made individually, there is real scope to make it closer to the person you are honouring. The artist works to commission, and personalisation can be discussed directly. The four weeks involved in making the urn are also four weeks in which you can think carefully about what you would like to add, whether that is a particular detail, an inscription, or something that reflects a quality specific to the person.

If you would like to talk through the options, we are happy to go at your pace and help you think it through.
