A stillness that stays with you

Sometimes you know what you are looking for, even if the words are hard to find. Not something cold or empty, but an object that holds the quiet a person left behind. The Buddha funeral urn 'Dai Nichi' does that. Hand-modelled in ceramic with a bronze and silver grey finish, it is a cremation urn shaped around meaning as much as craft.

What 'Dai Nichi' means

Dai Nichi refers to the cosmic Buddha of the Vajrayana tradition, understood as the embodiment of all-encompassing awareness. The word Buddha itself comes from the Pali language and encompasses three ideas: the awakened, the enlightened, and the one with complete understanding. That is not a title but a state of being. If the person you are remembering sought stillness, carried wisdom quietly, or held Buddhism as part of their life, this urn connects directly to that.

Four weeks of hand work

The 'Dai Nichi' is part of the legendURN collection and is made entirely by hand by a single artist working from instinct and experience. Each piece begins with modelling, then drying, then firing, then the application of a bronze finish by hand. From raw clay to finished urn, that process takes around four weeks. You see the result in every piece: no two are identical in colour gradation or surface character.

Bronze and silver grey finish with integrated candle holder

The ceramic body carries a bronze and silver grey finish that gives the figure depth and presence. The integrated candle holder allows a candle to sit beside the urn, a simple addition that completes a place of remembrance without requiring anything elaborate. This urn for ashes is designed for indoor use only.

Caring for your urn

Ceramic is a strong and lasting material, but it asks for a stable setting. Place the urn on a firm, level surface away from moisture and direct heat sources such as radiators. The bronze finish is sensitive to abrasive or chemical cleaners. A soft, dry cloth is all it needs. Treated this way, the finish holds its character for years.

Made personal for the person you are missing

If you would like to personalise this cremation urn, engraving is available. A name, a date, a line of verse, or a phrase that belonged to them. Something you heard them say, or a single word that carries everything. Further customisation is also possible. Get in touch and we can talk through what would suit this piece and the person it is for, at whatever pace feels right.
