A flower that stays, long after it has bloomed
The tulip opens fully, then lets go. Not because it disappears, but because what remains beneath the surface makes the next bloom possible. That movement, from presence to memory, is what this bronze cremation urn holds at its centre. If you are looking for something that honours that transition with honesty and quiet dignity, the Tulip urn is a lasting answer.
Hand-crafted in bronze by specialists in the Netherlands
Each urn is shaped by hand in the Netherlands from bronze sheet material. Craftsmen weld and form the metal into the tulip silhouette, a process that demands precision and patience at every stage. Bronze does not deteriorate, and that is not a marketing claim but a material fact. It holds its structure indoors and outdoors, through years of changing light and weather. The patina layer, available in green or brown, is applied by hand, and because of that no two urns carry exactly the same finish. You are choosing something that exists nowhere else in quite the same way.
Patina and care: what you need to know in practice
The bronze itself needs no maintenance. The patina layer is a different matter, and it is worth understanding the distinction before you place the urn.
The green patina is delicate. Clean it only with a soft cloth, water and a little mild soap. Do not scrub. Over the years the layer settles and becomes more even in colour, which many people find adds character rather than diminishing it.
The brown patina carries a light wax coat that halts the oxidation process. Indoors, keeping it free of dust is enough. Outdoors, the wax layer will need refreshing: depending on the location and weather conditions, apply beeswax every two years or so, working it in with a cloth, allowing it to absorb, then buffing it off. It is a small ritual that keeps the finish stable for years.
What the tulip shape carries
The tulip form is not decorative detail. It carries a meaning that is concrete and personal. The flower releases its petals so the bulb can grow on, and that is precisely what you are living through now. The life of the person you have lost has not vanished; it has changed form. The bond you shared, the memories that grew between you, those continue to grow even in absence. This urn for ashes expresses that in bronze, in line, in the weight you hold in your hands.
Personalisation: a urn made entirely your own
If you would like the urn to sit even closer to the person it honours, a bespoke design is possible. You send a sketch, a photograph or a reference, and a design is drawn up for your approval before anything is made. What comes back is something that belongs to no one else. If you have a particular idea in mind, it is worth a conversation before you decide.
Filling and sealing the urn
Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is included. The urn is sealed using double-sided adhesive tape with a very high bonding strength, designed to hold securely once closed. The process is straightforward: place the ash bag inside the urn, use the protruding section as a funnel to pour in the ashes, seal the bag with the cable tie provided, and tuck it fully into the opening. If you are not using an ash bag, a funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once filled, make sure the inner rim is completely free of dust, grease and moisture using the cloth provided, then press the cap firmly and evenly into place. A correctly sealed cap sits flush with the base.
If you would prefer not to fill the urn yourself, the crematorium or funeral director can do this for you. If the urn ever needs to be reopened for any reason, our technicians can assist.
Lead time and delivery
Because each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands using specialist materials, the lead time is four to six weeks. In practice, many orders are ready sooner, but we give a six-week estimate to be honest rather than optimistic. If you need to know the current lead time before ordering, contact us via chat or email and we will give you an accurate figure straight away.
Practical considerations for outdoor placement
Bronze is one of the few materials genuinely suited to outdoor use over the long term. The structure of the metal will not weaken or degrade with exposure to the elements. The one area that needs attention outdoors is the brown patina's wax layer, as noted above. The green patina requires no wax, but should always be cleaned gently. If you are placing the urn in a more exposed position, the brown patina with its protective wax coat is the more straightforward choice for outdoor settings.
If you have a question about the material, the patina options, lead time or a bespoke design, we are happy to talk it through at whatever pace suits you.
