A heart that endures

The heart is one of the oldest symbols of human connection. Not ornamental, but expressive of something that resists easy description. If you are looking for a cremation urn that carries that kind of meaning, this bronze heart urn is a choice rooted in something deeper than appearance.

Bronze: a material made by hand

This urn is not cast from a mould. Bronze sheet is cut, bent and welded by skilled craftspeople in the Netherlands, which means every piece is formed individually. No two urns are identical. The bronze itself is inherently robust and needs no specialist upkeep. What does require attention is the patina: a coloured oxide layer applied by hand, giving each urn its distinctive character.

Green or brown patina: two finishes, one material

The urn for ashes is available in two finishes. The green patina needs only gentle cleaning with a soft cloth, water and mild soap. Avoid scrubbing, as the patina layer is delicate. Over time the colour settles and deepens, giving the urn its own quiet history. The brown patina carries a light wax coating that halts oxidation. Indoors, simply keep it dust-free. For outdoor placement, the wax layer should be refreshed at least every two years using beeswax: apply with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to finish.

Practical reassurance for the longer term

This bronze urn for ashes is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use and holds the full volume of an adult's ashes. It can be displayed as a standalone piece or incorporated into a memorial. If you are looking for a smaller version to hold a portion of the ashes, a matching mini urn is available in the keepsake urn range.

Durability and care

Bronze does not break and is naturally resistant to weathering. The material itself is not fragile. The patina layer, however, is. Abrasive cleaning products or scrubbing will damage the colour finish. For the green patina, gentle cleaning only. For the brown patina used outdoors, regular beeswax maintenance is essential to keep the protective coating intact.

Filling and sealing the urn

All the accessories needed to fill and seal the urn are supplied with it. The urn is sealed using a high-bond double-sided adhesive tape rated for considerable tensile load. The process is straightforward. Place the supplied ash bag inside the urn, leaving a portion extended to act as a funnel. Pour the ashes in, then close the bag with the supplied cable tie and tuck it fully inside the opening. If you prefer not to use an ash bag, a funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once filled, ensure the inner sealing rim is free of dust, grease and moisture using the cloth provided. Remove the protective film from the lid, position it carefully against the rim and press it firmly into place in a single movement. A correctly fitted lid sits flush with the surface. If you would rather have the crematorium or funeral director fill the urn, that is entirely possible. Should the urn ever need to be reopened for any reason, our technicians can assist.

Lead time

Because each urn is made by hand in the Netherlands using quality materials, the lead time for this bronze cremation urn is four to six weeks. In practice it is often sooner, but we quote six weeks to avoid any disappointment. If you need to know the current lead time before ordering, please get in touch via chat or email and we will check for you.

Shaped around the bond you shared

You are not choosing a heart shape because it is conventional. You are choosing it because it refers to something specific: a connection that existed and continues to exist in memory. Bronze reinforces that. It is a material that holds its form across years and weathers change, developing its own patina as time passes, much as memories settle into something quieter but no less present.

Commission a bespoke design

If you have a particular design in mind, it is possible to develop a custom urn together. Send a sketch, a photograph or a reference piece and our craftspeople will produce a design proposal for your approval, followed by a detailed quote.

If you would like to talk through what is possible for your situation, we are happy to think it through with you at whatever pace suits.
