A shape that means something

The ellipse is not a random form. It is what happens when a circle tilts, when something that seemed complete finds a new direction. That quiet geometry gives the bronze cremation urn 'Ellips' its meaning: a considered object for a life you want to continue honouring.

Handcrafted in bronze, made in the Netherlands

Each 'Ellips' is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople who shape bronze sheet material through welding and bending. That process demands patience and precision, and the result carries both. Bronze is naturally durable and weather-resistant, and the base material does not degrade. This urn for ashes is built to last, whether placed indoors or outside in a garden.

Patina: no two urns are the same

The character of the 'Ellips' comes from its patina, a coloured oxide layer applied by hand to the bronze surface. Because this process responds differently to each individual piece, every urn is genuinely unique. Two finishes are available.

  • Green patina gives the urn a natural, settled appearance. Maintenance is straightforward: wipe with a soft cloth, mild soapy water, and leave it at that. Avoid hard scrubbing, as the layer is delicate. Over time, the colour evens out into a pleasing consistency.
  • Brown patina is finished with a light wax coat that slows further oxidation. Indoors, keeping it dust-free is sufficient. Outdoors, the wax coat needs refreshing at least every two years: apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to finish.

The reassurance of careful making

Choosing a cremation urn brings practical questions alongside emotional ones. Here is what you can expect, so you can make your decision with confidence.

Production and delivery

Because each urn is made to order by hand, the lead time is four to six weeks. Dispatch often happens sooner than that, but a six-week estimate is quoted to avoid any disappointment. If you need a current indication of lead time, the team is available via chat or by email.

Filling and sealing the urn

Everything you need to fill and seal the urn is included. The urn comes with a high-bond double-sided sealing tape and a cloth for preparing the inner rim. The process is straightforward: the ash bag can be used as a funnel to guide the ashes in, then sealed with the included cable tie and tucked into the opening. If you prefer not to use an ash bag, a separate funnel is recommended to avoid spillage. Once the inner rim is clean, dry and free of grease, the cap is pressed flush into the opening in a single movement. When correctly closed, the base sits completely flat. If you would prefer not to fill the urn yourself, your funeral director or crematorium can do this for you. Should the urn ever need to be reopened for any reason, a technician can assist.

Bronze outdoors: what to keep in mind

Bronze is well suited to outdoor placement, but it is not entirely maintenance-free. The green patina is more forgiving in exposed conditions; the brown patina's wax layer will need periodic renewal outdoors, roughly every two years. Neither finish should be scrubbed. Treated with that basic care, the material holds its appearance across many years.

A place that fits

The 'Ellips' suits both indoor and outdoor settings. Its proportions are deliberate and unshowy: at home on a windowsill, in a garden corner, or wherever holds meaning for you and those closest to you. The bond you shared deserves a place that feels right, not one that feels imposed.

A design that is entirely yours

If you are looking for something that reflects your loved one more precisely, a custom design is possible. You send a sketch, photograph or reference, and a bespoke design is drawn up for your approval before anything goes into production. Nothing is made until you are satisfied. An engraving plate can also be added to personalise the urn with a name, date or short phrase, if you would like that.

If you have questions about the 'Ellips' or would like to talk through the options, get in touch via chat or the customer service team. There is no pressure, just someone ready to think it through with you.
