The bronze 'Drop' cremation urn is formed in that image: curves that meet at the top, like a gesture that pauses at what has been lost. Handmade in the Netherlands, from bronze

Each Drop is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople. Sheet bronze is welded and shaped into the distinctive teardrop form, a process that demands both skill and precision, and you can see that in every finished piece. Bronze as a material does not deteriorate and requires no protective treatment simply to endure.

Patina: no two urns are the same

The colour comes from patina, a coloured oxide layer applied to the bronze by hand. Because this is done manually, the result is unique to each urn. The Drop is available in green and brown, and no two pieces are identical. The bond you shared with the person you are remembering was unique to them. It is fitting that the urn reflects that.

Caring for your urn

Bronze is durable and suitable for both indoor and outdoor placement, but the patina layer does need some attention. What that involves depends on which colour you choose and where the urn will be kept.

Green patina

A green patina can be cleaned with a soft cloth, water and a mild soap solution. Avoid scrubbing, as the layer is delicate. Over the years the surface will settle and become more even in tone.

Brown patina

The brown patina carries a light wax coating, applied during finishing. This coating slows oxidisation and prevents the bronze from continuing to develop a green tone over time. Indoors, keeping the surface free of dust is sufficient. Outdoors, the wax layer will need refreshing, at minimum every two years depending on the location and weather conditions. To do this, apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to finish.

Filling and sealing the urn

The Drop is designed for use with an ash bag only, and all accessories needed for filling and sealing are included. The urn is sealed using double-sided high-bond tape capable of holding under significant tension. Before sealing, ensure the inner rim is completely free of dust, grease and moisture using the cloth provided, then press the cap firmly into place in a single movement until it sits flush. If you would prefer not to fill the urn yourself, your crematorium or funeral director can do this, and if the urn ever needs to be reopened for any reason, our technicians can assist with that too.

Delivery lead time

Because the Drop is made by hand in the Netherlands, the lead time is four to six weeks. In practice it is often sooner, but we communicate six weeks so there are no unwelcome surprises.
