Two arms, one lasting embrace

Some urns hold ashes. The 'Arms' holds something more: the shape of two people who belonged together, kept close in a single object that makes that bond visible.

A companion urn for two

The 'Arms' is designed as a double urn, with each of its two arching forms providing space for one adult's ashes. Two people can remain together after death, side by side within the same piece. If you would prefer to use the second chamber for something the person treasured, that is equally possible. A small keepsake, a personal object: the design accommodates that choice without restriction. This is a cremation urn built around connection, whatever form that connection took.

Handcrafted in bronze, made in the Netherlands

The 'Arms' is made by hand in the Netherlands by specialist craftspeople who work with bronze sheet, shaping it through welding and bending. That process demands both precision and an intimate knowledge of the material. Bronze itself is exceptionally durable and requires no structural maintenance. What does need attention is the patina: a coloured oxide layer applied by hand, which gives each urn its own character. No two pieces are identical. You can choose between a green patina and a brown patina, each with a distinct quality.

Patina and care: what to expect

The colour of this urn for ashes is not paint. It is a living surface that develops over time, and knowing how to care for it properly will help the piece look its best for years to come.

Green patina

The green layer is delicate. Clean it only with a soft cloth, water and mild soap. Do not scrub. Over time the tone will settle and even out, which deepens rather than diminishes the character of the bronze.

Brown patina

The brown patina is sealed beneath a light wax coating that halts further oxidation and prevents the surface from turning green. Indoors, dusting is sufficient. If the urn is placed outside, the wax layer should be refreshed at least once every two years: apply beeswax with a cloth, allow it to absorb, then buff to finish.

Indoor and outdoor placement

The 'Arms' is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Bronze is naturally weather-resistant, so the urn itself is not at risk from the elements. What requires attention outdoors is the patina layer, as described above. With the right care, the urn will hold its appearance wherever you choose to place it.

Practical details

Everything needed to fill and seal the urn is supplied with it, including an ash bag and a cable tie to secure it. The bronze urn is sealed using a high-adhesion double-sided closure tape capable of bearing significant tensile force. The process is straightforward: the ash bag acts as a funnel as you fill the urn, and the cap is then pressed flush into the opening so the base sits completely flat. If you would prefer not to fill the urn yourself, any crematorium or funeral director can do this for you. Should the urn ever need to be reopened, the technical team can assist with that too.

Because each piece is made to order by hand in the Netherlands using the finest materials, the lead time for this funeral urn is four to six weeks. In practice it is often sooner, but a six-week timeframe is quoted to avoid disappointment. If you would like to know the current lead time before ordering, contact the team via chat or email and they will give you an up-to-date answer.

Personalisation and custom design

If you would like to personalise the urn, an engraving plate can be added. It can carry a name, a date, or a short phrase that says something of who is held here and what the bond between you meant. That small addition shifts the 'Arms' from a place of safekeeping into something that speaks directly of a particular person and a particular life.

Custom designs

If you have something specific in mind, it is possible to develop a bespoke design together. Send a sketch, a photograph or a reference, and the team will produce a design proposal and a quotation for your approval. There is no obligation until you are ready to proceed.

If you would like to discuss engraving options, patina choice or lead time, get in touch and we'll talk it through at whatever pace suits you.
